Bryan Lawrence is on the far right of the picture, next to his wonderful family.

March 19th, 2024 there is a Special Election in House District 27B. It is to elect a Representative to replace the seat left vacant after the resignation of Representative Kurt Daudt who served for more than a decade from this district.

HD 27B has the following Cities inside the borders: Zimmerman, Princeton, St Francis, and Bethel. The borders encompass Isanti, Mille Lacs, Anoka, and Sherburne Counties. HD 27B Map.

While you might think this is a safe district for a Republican to win in, Special Elections depend on who shows up to the ballot box either in person or by Absentee Ballot.  We pray all the Republican voters plus the voters in between show up to vote for Bryan in House District 27B.

Hard Worker

Briefly reading his biography on his website lawrenceformn.com tells us that Bryan is a hard worker in 3 successful jobs. First he has helped run businesses his late father Doug Lawrence owned and operated a sod business Rocket Turf, a home heating oil delivery service called Rocket Oil, and a beef cattle business called Lawrence Herefords. He grew up in Coon Rapids where the Sod and Oil Delivery businesses are located at while the family farm is located in Princeton Minnesota. So tackling all 3 businesses required a daily commute.

When his father passed away in January 2021 he has stayed in the family businesses helping out his brother Brad and his mom Joann. Upon marriage to his wife Marytina in 1995 he went to live on the family farm in Princeton and has raised 4 children.

Political Life

While it might not sound like the typical politics, there are some involved in Farm Bureaus, and Bryan & Marytina have been active in the Sherburne County Farm Bureau. They have been active in the Young Farmers and Ranchers program. They were part of trips to Washington DC representing Minnesota and agriculture at national conferences. Bryan eventually became the President of the Sherburne County Farm Bureau.

Bryan Lawrence ran for the Minnesota State House in 1996 and again in 1998 each time he fell short but learned from mistakes.  His foray into elected political life brought attention on himself and he was asked to fill a seat on the Baldwin Township Board.  He’s been on this board for 20 years.

Bryan on the Issues

As listed on his website in no particular order here are his stances on being the State House District 27B Representative:

  • Bryan is a Pro-Life Candidate and opposes the death culture of the DFL
  • Bryan is Pro 2nd Amendment. No Gun Control law has stopped crime nor mass shootings. He opposes any law that further restricts law abiding gun owners
  • Bryan is for School Choice as not all students learn the same way. Parents should be entrusted with what is best for their children and should direct state money that helps best serves their children.
  • Bryan is shocked at how $17 Billion of the surplus was wasted on irresponsible spending, taxes were raised and now a deficit is forecast.
  • Bryan is against redefining what men & women are. He’s against allowing men to compete in women’s sports. He is also against transitioning minor children with sex-change medication
  • Bryan is against omnibus bills where unrelated provisions are packed into “must pass” legislation. He points to the MN Constitution Article IV Section 17: No law shall embrace more than one subject, which shall be expressed in its title.”
  • Bryan is against spending nearly $3 Billion on one light rail line and redirect transportation money into improving roads and bridges
  • Bryan is for small businesses in Minnesota. He states that he will work to rollback excessive regulations and lower small business taxes to help job creators.
  • Bryan is for welfare reform. He believes welfare fraud is rampant in Minnesota.
  • Bryan is for Mandatory Photo ID to vote. He wants to decrease the number of days prior to an election to vote early to 20 days. He wants to prohibit non-profit groups receiving state funds from engaging in get-out-the-vote activities.

Other than going door to door for his campaign or making phone calls, the best way is to give a donation.

This Special Election started the day Rep Kurt Daudt resigned on February 11th, 2024.
